Really good series as expected with Noomi. Spoilt a little by the annoying daughter who does stupid things. E.g She calls her father and tells him she was scared that he would put Noomi in hospital. Why did she call him and tell him where they were and where they were going??

My thought after watching season 1: - Screens in the silo are actually showing the real outside world. Why the need of projecting the fake green with birds environment? I mean, it could be that the outside world is bad and living in the silo is good? - My thought on this is that, by showing the cleaners the "illusion" of a green place, then this would guarantee the cleaning of the lens, considering the cleaner would think "hey, the world is green, people inside need to see this, so i'm going to clean the lens" Also, regarding the assumption that the gas before ascending the stairs is the cause of their death above, I think that we are missing the fact the Juliet sees her wrists after the initial "shock" she receives when almost crossing the hill. So, maybe they receive an electric shock or something and the good-quality-tape prevent the sudden death?

I also didn't like the ending the same reasons - Dexter seemed out of character when he killed the coach. But Dexter has made several poor decisions in the previous episodes so perhaps it isn't that odd after all - killing Angel's wife, taking too long to kill Trinity in Season 4 and leaving Deb with the psycho in Season 8 come to mind.

This is better, I like the idea that the night king wasn’t easily killed by a 14 year old and instead continues to move south causing all the realms to see the greater threat and unite together. I also agree that Danny should be pregnant with John’s baby. I also like that you filled some holes, brining in the children of the forest lore, that should have been completed and not just abandoned. Also talking about alaria sand and what happened to her which we should have seen her escape. I agree that Circi should have been stabbed in the belly, not dany.

Now I am only 6 episodes through the new series so far, however the 1980s version is extremely close to the book. The new version drops too much and changes bits with the result that several of the side plots are already missed and the main character development of John Blackthorne, which is one of the two main stories in the book, is not occurring and I fear will be much left out. The new version is beautifully shot and well acted, but it is too much style over substance and too many additions purely to modernise the story. Frankly the new version has followed the typical Hollywood fashion of rewriting books to the detriment of the story. BTW - I've read the book 3 or 4 times, listed to the audio book twice and seen the original series at least 3 times (as I have the DVD set).

How can I stream the old one? I think James Clavell wrote some of the episodes (he worked a lot in tv and movies). Hulu has a dubbed newer version but it's not the default. Instead of going to the next episode you got stuck with a podcast. The 80's Shogun was a phenomenon second only to Roots (but I watched the Doctor Strange tv pilot instead).

Can you all just dial it back with the gushing and the placing on high pedestals of these trendy series? This particular show was fine at best. It looked good. It looked like the game, for the most part. The characters were generally likable. However it was a fairly boring season where no risks were taken, no characters ever felt like they were in any kind of danger, and the rare action sequences were forgettable. And that's what this show will be as well. Its new and fun right now. It'll get a second season. But it will run its course by the end of that season and audiences will move on to the next shiny object. For one, audiences don't have the patience or attention span to invest in anything anymore. And for two, the show just isn't that compelling. Its fine, but its not great or epic or a once in a generation wonder. I'm going to offer a movie that was also good but not great as an example of why Fallout is also not great. Starship Troopers. Starship Troopers came out in the 90's. It feels very 90's. Its got a lot of bad acting and a ton of campiness. It has grown to be a cult classic, but its far from being a masterpiece. However, one thing this movie does well is carry a storyline about a handful of characters and takes them from naive high school grads to formidable military leaders and warriors within a standard movie run time. The movie rarely if ever lags in its pacing and there is a strong balance of battle and action scenes along with dramatic scenes. And again, they were able to accomplish this within a single movie's run time. Also, they were not afraid to give us a heavy dose of the alien bugs presence on screen. The other thing is that Starship Troopers has a source material, but its not as well known nor does the movie follow it all that loyally. But it did manage to give us a compelling and fun story that starts, plays out, and wraps up nicely. Meanwhile, we have Fallout. Fallout has a recent and well known source material. The show dresses itself very much like the game. It even captures the weird 1950s future world of a post atomic bomb landscape. I'll give credit where its due. Where this show doesn't do well is that it puts far too much weight in drama and pointless dialogue. It spends way too much time in the vault with circus clown characters that aren't very inspiring. It also puts way too much emphasis on the ghoul's back story. His back story is the intro. That's it. That's all we needed to know. The show needed to balance wasteland life way heavier. It needed to put the characters in real danger amongst the raiders, factions, and mutated critters of the wasteland, if even those being quick encounters. The series had several episodes to play with. I'm fine with an overarching plot about Mulvaney or whatever her name is having a diabolical plan. That's fine and even necessary, but there also should have been some real encounters and conflicts along the way otherwise. This show couldn't accomplish in 8 episodes, what an average movie from the 90's could do in one standard movie's run time. I wonder if just making Fallout a one off movie would have helped it? Whatever the case, there is nothing remotely perfect about the Fallout series. Its ok, but its far from good or great.

I like them both for different reasons. I have never read the book so do not know which is closer, but I grew up on the 1980 version with Richard Chamberlain as Blackthorne and still prefer that one over the modern iteration. However the modern one does look a lot better, but then it should with modern tech these days.

It doesn't make sense Mr House didn't have a heads up when the bombs fell if he was in on it like the finale of the show explain.

Best show I've seen in years and can't wait for season 2!

I learned much more about Japanese culture in the 2024 version. Like the importance of pouring of tea. How "Buntaro" prepares tea for Lady Mariko in a typical Japanese tea ceremony. It was emotional and unexpected. Even in the brothel, Blackthorne was told to give complements on the pouring of tea to the courtesan- almost like foreplay! How the women had to walk with their knees together. Unlike the 1980's version, Japanese input, direction and producers depicts the show with more accuracy! I read where the dialogue was written in English before being translated into old Japanese and then checked by historians to ensure it is period appropriate! The script was written with a few more twists and turns. For example, although women weren't given any power but I LOVED the implied power that Mariko and Ochiba were able to wield, inspite of this male dominated feudal system who were at war. But through poetry, demure glances the women found a way to achieve victory for Toronaga! I just liked the 2024 version SO much better!

I do like both versions. Of course both have their pros and cons - also when it comes to sticking to the original work of Clavell. Generally the 80s version is pretty close to the book, however for exaple the scene where Yabu rescues Rodrigues is closer to the book in the 2024 version. Also the depicion of Toranaga negotiating with the Mama san for a stick off time is very well done in the 2024 version On the other hand I absolutly hated the scene when Toda Hiromatsu comitted suicide. That is pretty far away from the original story since Toranaga repeatedly forbid him to do that on several occasions in the book. Howeer IMHO the character play by Toshiro Mifune and Richard Chamberlain is unmatched.

It was not even in the same league as the other series. I don't even understand why they called it True Detective when there were no detectives. There were just small town cops and ghosts. It was like a Stephen King story not a crime story.

The 1980 version was fantastic. The remake is not. I have seen logs who do a better job of acting than the actor who played Blackthorn in the remake. The lighting was bad in the remake.

The only issue with this ending is Arya using Jaime's face... In order for her to use his face, she would have had to kill him and remove it. Additionally, Arya is unable to use faces because she was unable to hold back her emotions around her family. Being "faceless" requires emotional detachment. Many people have complained about her not using the faces anymore, without realizing why she's unable to use them. I feel like the show did a pretty good job of making it clear though.

Fallout

I loved the mom’s acting! She started aloof in the beginning. Then began to be comfortable (though was a little short with Pia). After they started the filming and editing mom was more relaxed with Pia. Her real talent blossomed when mom became suspicious of Pia’s knowledge. She was alert, then anxious. But like a true psychopath, she didn’t beg Pia to come back into the car, she pleaded with her like a concerned mother. Only when she became desperate did she yell at Pia. Then really frustrated and saw she was fucked did she start screaming cunt cunt cunt fuck. and when chasing her down her acting like everything was fine to not alert Pia sounded so real. Like a real psychopath would be without a trace of

Long story short: 80's - way better story. Netflix - just a better picture.

A vastly superior race, incapable of lying, find themselves without a home planet. They learn of Earth, and what humans do to each other and the planet they live on. They decide that since they are superior morally and intellectually, they should save this planet from humans, eliminate humans, and take Earth as their own. When humans learn of this, they begin to enact a plan to save themselves, and they don't care how many innocents they have to destroy to do it. The last thing learned about the superior species is that they aren't going to kill humanity indiscriminately, but intend to spare those deemed "worthy". And the superior race are playing the villains in this story? Interesting.

Following the shocking Dragon Ball Evolution I've had PTSD and live in constant fear of the series I love entering the mainstream. Live Action One Piece was okay, better than I expected. Live Action Fallout I thought was brilliant though. Gutted at no Super Mutants but otherwise I thought it was great. My girlfriend, with no attention span or prior knowledge of the Fallout franchise, also loved it.

Better read the novel to see what version is the better one! As for Toranaga, I think they chose the best possible actor for this role, in fact i hoped he will play Toranaga, but of course NO one can match Toshiro Mifune. Even Richard Chamberlain said he was quite a normal guy, but as soon as he put on his Toranaga dress, the all wanted to bow down. That is how good Mifune actually was...

Never watched the old version of Shogun. Love this one every second of it. Oscar worthy acting, in my humble opinion.

Barb Howard (along with the other heads of the other companies are some of the stupidest characters I have ever seen). What is the point of selling vaults to people and making all that money (yeah, yeah, yeah) and then dropping all those nukes which destroy all of the civilization and that includes the banks where all your money is stored. So in effective you completely destroy everything you have worked for. Even in the "present" scenes in the show there is no real money. People trade freaking bottle caps. And old Bud is now just a brain in a roomba. What kind of life is that? You can't have sex or even move any place that isn't level or you get stuck. At least he should have had his brain put into a Mr. Handy.

2 things. First. The black child adopted by Edmund's white family is meant to represent tokenization. Edmund was obviously prop able to help secure the father's ambitions. Secondly. You didn't mention the fact that Edmund Gains is an obvious play on Ed Gains, the real person that inspired characters like Norman Bates and Leatherface😂. I knew he was going to be psycho from the jump.Great video as always.

The 1980s version is far, far better and much truer to the original novel. The new Blackthorne is somewhat of a bumbling idiot vs the original who was assertive but loyal to Toranaga. In this new version there was no chemistry or sense of genuine friendship between Blackthorne and Toranaga. Which is a good segue to the complete lack of relationship between Mariko and Blackthorne in the new one. They completely botched this, as they botched the Mariko character. In the book and the original miniseries, she is powerful but in a quiet and hidden way. She's also polite and loyal, which disguises her intelligence and cunning. I really didn't like the modern, snarky, annoying version. The new one definitely wins on visual effects and costumes but it loses out on the most important thing, which is the story and the connection to the characters. I'll go as far as to say the 2024 version was a travesty. Kinda like Phantom Menace was to original Star Wars. Not quite that bad, but close.
